Are the tutors native ASL users?Yes, all of our tutors are Deaf, ASL as their Hertiage language/native ASL users, and has a teaching ASL experience. You will be using ASL from the very first session. Just because someone is deaf does not mean they are automatically a native ASL users.

Do your tutors have any sort of language education (i.e. degrees in ASL or similar)?All of our tutors has a degree or ceritifcation specializing in ASL Studies, Deaf Studies, Deaf Education, and or Teaching ASL.

How should I select a tutor? Are they all the same?The choice of tutor is important because the teaching styles and attributes of each tutor differ, sometimes significantly. There are tutors who work with beginners only, while others work with advanced and superior students only. Finally, some tutors offer structured lessons, while others focus primarily on conversation. Please review each tutor’s profile/bio on "ASL Professionals" page before scheduling a lesson.

Do you offer lessons that are specific to certain specialties such as sports, technology, depicting verb (classifiers), etc?"Yes! Although we do not currently offer <i>structured</i> lessons in such speciffic areas, one of the benefits of a private session with our tutor is that the lesson can be customized to the needs of the stuent. If there a particular area of interest that you would like to discuss and/or practice, please share this with your tutor. Also check out "Focus Areas" page for some suggestions.

What do I need to prepare prior my scheduled session? What I need to be able to connect?To maximize your learning experience, you need: * a high quality webcam, * a reliable high speed internet access (recommended download/upload speed 10 Mbps or better - you can test your internet speed at www.speedtest.net by Ookla), and * a computer/smartphone/tablet

Where are the tutors located?Currently, all of our tutors are located in Austin, Texas, USA. We will continue add new skilled tutors from all over US and Canada.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule a session?Sessions cancelled with less than 48 hours notice of the scheduled date/time. No make-up session will be granted. To cancel or reschedule a class with more than 48 hours notice, login to your account ______.

What if I experience technical problems during my lesson?Please email us immediately hello@ASL-tutors.com. We want to ensure that you have the best learning experience as possible and we will work with you to reschedule.

What if I want a refund? What is your refund policy?Our goal is 100% satisfaction, but we do recognize there are circumstances in which refunds are requested. PayPal does not allow refunds more than 60 days after purchase. However, without 60 days of purchase, ASL-tutors offers a refund on unused session(s) minus a $20 processing fee.
